At times, we can get so caught up in what we hope things will be or what we feel something should look like that we need to step back and take another look. Whether this is small or big; life as we know it, a meal at a cafe, an exercise session, a catch up with a friend or expectations we have put on ourselves in our daily grind.
In stepping back, we can see things for what they really are which gives us the power to do something about it. Embrace it, laugh at it or down right do something to change it.
In my head, I have things mapped out a certain way, classes will flow as I envisaged, days usually tightly packed. So it won’t surprise you that I get caught out, because life doesn’t always fall into place as ordered.
If you’ve been following my FB page, you would have seen 2 live video feeds this week reflecting on my time in Bali and the journey I have been on recently.
My message, clear in my mind after amazing days filled with sunshine, yoga and time out just for me… was simple. But in reality, the camera terrifies me, the live feed causes me to hesitate and instead of this beautiful, inspiring, ground breaking message – I fumbled with it. You would think, considering the theme of this blog getting written at the same time, I could shrug it off and forget about it, but it took up a fair amount of head space which I just couldn’t shake. A suf, breakfast and time to look at it from a different viewpoint and I can see it for what it is; unpolished and hesitating – yes and yet honest and real at the same time. All of which is fine – because it just is what it is.
Life has a habit of throwing some random things our way and it is human instinct to have expectations, to judge and to worry unnecessarily. In observing the situation without judgement, taking a step back and putting things into perspective, we can take another look at what’s going on, see it for what it really is and respond better to it.
With recognition comes a sense of relief, no judgement, just you observing life and making a call on it. There is no point reflecting on what it should have been, or could have been. It is what it is.
The small stuff might be shrugged off and let go of easily. The bigger stuff might need more reflection but essentially – it is what it is. And if it isn’t for you – then do something about it. The power is then yours to do as you please. To stand tall and walk away, to put your hand up and question or to accept and move on.
Whatever your mindset, go forth and conquer girls… you’ve got this.
